34.8 minutes is how long the average twitter user spends on twitter daily.
Comparing that
45.8 are spent on TikTok.
45.6 are spent on YouTube.
30.4 are spent on Snapchat.
30.1 are spent on Instagram.
30.1 are spent on Facebook.
23.8 are spent on Reddit.
Which to be clear, this isn’t that big of a win for twitter, seeing they have under 35% the monthly users of Instagram, less than a third of TikTok and under 15% of YouTube/Facebook globally.
That being said, they still have 345 million users globally, which at 34.8 minutes being the daily average, they get 17.4 hours a month from users and 208 hours a year.
Twitter made 5 billion dollars in 2022.
$14.49 per user per year.
$0.07 per hour
Right now, Elon Musk is looking for more ways to monetize Twitter, realizing some advertisers are considering dropping them over what speech might be allowed, as well as issues paying the 1.5 billion dollars in interest on the loan Musk got buying it.
One solution that has gotten some controversy is the idea of charging $8 for a premium version of Twitter.
Added features
Reduced or no ads
Tweets getting more views
Which before going further, just to offer a personal opinion, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Elon Musk doing this. Almost every software company and platforms such as YouTube have premium versions. Why people are making this a political thing to pay $8 a month is bizarre and childish.
Paying $8 Worth It To Get A Blue Tick On Twitter ?
That said, this $8 a month fee might not actually make Twitter that much money if ads are eliminated.
$0.07 is how much Twitter users make the company per hour spent.
114 hours spent on Twitter would make the company $8.
This seems like a crazy amount of time to spend per month on Twitter, but it’s really not. While the average user spends 34.8 minutes per day, that’s rarely how much single users actually spend on it. There’s a minority of users spending 2+ hours a day on Twitter, with many spending a few minutes.
This is sort of the problem YouTube had with YouTube Premium.
They were marketing it heavily for a while, producing original content, such as Cobra Kai and Wayne, also saying how it was ad free YouTube. YouTube spent 1-2 years pushing it and while still around, it’s not as invested into anymore, where YouTube found the only people that used it were people spending 1+ hours a day on YouTube.
YouTube Premium was reported to in some cases be a loser for the company, where people who’d spend 3-5 hours a day would go premium and it’d make the company more money if they didn’t.
